History

Founded in 1959, the EVUS has seen its notoriety grow over the musical seasons. It interprets great work of the repertoire and contributes to the influence of the University of Strasbourg through its participation to numerous festivals (Festival de musique baroque de Mulhouse, Festival international de musique universitaire de Belfort) and official ceremonies (PhD. Graduation Ceremony, Cérémonie de la Plaque…).

The choir was directed by Erwin List from 1962 to 1988, followed by Daniel Leininger (1988-2000), Johann-Albrecht Michael (2000-2007) and Rémi Studer (2008-2018). It is currently under the direction of Clotilde Gaborit.

The Repertoire

The EVUS choir covers a wide repertoire – both sacred and profane – going from the Baroque period (Bach, Händel…) through the Classical era (Mozart) to contemporary creations (Boulevard de la Dordogne, Dazzi, 2019).

The choral ensemble regularly plays with various instrumental formations going from one or two pianos to early music orchestras (Plurium) and symphonic orchestras (Orchestre Universitaire de Strasbourg).

Being open to the international is one of the choir’s key aims. The EVUS had the opportunity to collaborate with various other international groups (Collegium Musicum Tübingen, Kammerchor Uni Köln) and each year, multiple international students join the choir.
